Hi everyone, thanks for all the replies, I dont feel so isloated now and you are all so kind!

Ive been on mx and hx since October 09 and have been increased to 20mg of mx for the last 3 weeks. I really thought I was turning a corner this week as had started to have glimpses of me again, ie feeling normal and then not!!! I tool my mx Thursday night as normal and woke up Friday morning feeling really rough, like a hangover, tired and very nauseous. This feeling has persisted and still feel yuck today, also I have the metallic taste in my mouth, which I believe is the mx.

I just feel so frustrated with it all and esperately want to feel well again. The rheummy nurses have told me it takes time for the mx etc to work, and I know asking "how long" is like asking how long is a piece of string, but its like wading through mud at the moment.

Ive taken the advice from you lovely ladies and have looked on the happy feet website so hopefully I should be able to get some new shoes which will in turn help my backache. I just want to wake up and feel like Heather again not an old crock!!

So sorry to moan and I genuinely hope that you are all ok out there!

love Heatherxxx

Hi Heather

Welcome to the forum but sorry to hear that you have RA. On the bright side it could actually be something a whole lot worse although I'm sure, at the moment, it doesn't feel like it! Please don't ever feel like you are moaning. You are expressing your present feelings to a group of people who understand how you are feeling, we have all been there at some time!

It is so difficult when you are used to whizzing about the place and pacing yourself all the time makes life nothing short of hard work. With time and planning you will find that you are able to settle into a routine which gives you your life back and respects the RA. May seem a strange thing to suggest respecting a disease that has brought you to a near standstill but that really is the best way forward. Look after your body and you will be doing the best you are able to cope with the symptoms of RA.

Sorry to say but it is early days yet and three weeks really isn't long as far as RA treatments go. However, Methotrexate is a fantastic drug, tried and tested over many years so do bear with it. The next day effects you mention are down to the MTX however it is sometimes possible to cut down the side effects with a few minor adjustments. You may already be doing this but your GP could prescribe an anti emetic to get rid of the nausea. Are you taking folic acid? This too helps combat some of the unpleasant side effects; I take 5 mg every day except the day I take MTX. It was also suggested that instead of taking the 15mg dose of MTX in one go I split it into two doses taken within the same 12 hour period (say 10am/10pm or 8pm/8am next day). This does actually seem to work!

I hope you start to feel some benefit from the meds very soon. This frustrating time will come to an end and you will find the real you again. It will take time but you will get there!

Look forward to hearing from you again. In the meantime take care and rest that body whenever you get the chance.

Hi Heather

Maybe you had a bug or something which MTX helped along .

don,t give up as i had odd days if i sat in the hot tub i would feel sickie or did too much .I would feel odd for days .

I was in a state when the R.A started .As in the beinging i worked not knowing i would make it worse .
( carer on shifts )

it took from going to hardley doing anything and hardley walking or driving the whole year to get too where i am now .
the MTX kicked in on the 12th week and i could walk to the O.T which before that it took me ages .
was bad enough to see OT FOR 15 weeks and boy she did a good job .

Started MTX IN THE JUNE and was fit enough to stay at my brothers housesitting in the NOV and could walk the small dog round the block and take the car out somewhere to walk the dog .

but not my self untill the next Jan /Feb when i could say i could walk to town and do things with friends with out thinking oHH NOOO .

Take MTX WITH EASE NOW 2 half years on
Not too many promlems think it takes a while weeks months

Christine welcome to forum

Hi again

I didnt have any joy on the MTX, but there are lots of things that you can take with it to stop the nausea and also you can have it by injection which stops a lot of the tummy issues.

this forum is great!

never need feel alone with this crappy disease again!
